FAQs
What makes telehandlers different from other forklifts?
Telehandlers have the advantage of being able to navigate difficult terrain and obstacles. With four-wheel drive and multiple steering options. Telehandlers are outfitted with a boom and can lift loads into otherwise difficult to reach locations unlike other forklifts which can only lift loads vertically.
What is a telehandler load chart?
Load charts show the operator how much weight a telehandler can lift safely in different configurations. Telehandlers may be designed to lift a lot of weight however that capacity can drop sharply as the boom is extended outwards and away from the chassis. It is critical that operators understand how to use load charts to prevent dangerous tip over and falling loads.
What is the duration of validity for a Forklift Certificate in Ontario?
According to the excerpts from the CSA B335-15 (R2024) Safety standard for lift trucks:
“6.21.1 Retraining
Operators of lift trucks shall receive retraining in accordance with the requirements of the authority having jurisdiction and, in the absence of such requirements, shall receive retraining at intervals not exceeding three years. Retraining shall meet the requirements of Clause 6 (including knowledge verification and practical skills evaluation).
6.21.2 Upgrade training
Upgrade training shall be given to lift truck operators when equipment is introduced in the workplace that is unfamiliar to the operator; the equipment used by the operator is modified; the operating conditions or the environment in which the operator works is changed (e.g., the operator works in a different area, moves different types of loads, etc.); applicable legislation changes; or skill or knowledge deficiencies have been identified.”
CSA B335-15 Safety standard for lift trucks is a voluntary standard is commonly followed by most organizations and considered the best practice to implement and follow.
