In Ontario, all supervisors are legally mandated to complete Supervisor Health and Safety Awareness training. This training must be undertaken within one week of commencing their supervisory duties and must meet the requirements outlined in Ontario Regulation 297/13. Furthermore, employers must maintain proof of this training for each supervisor.

This course provides workers with the foundational knowledge of health and safety rights and responsibilities of workers, supervisors and employers and general workplace safety for workers across all of Ontario. This course meets the requirements outlined in Ontario Regulation 297/13 for the Supervisor Worker Health and Safety Awareness in a 5-step safety training program. 

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed and should be attended by all supervisors and managers. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) a supervisor: 

  • “Means a person who has charge of a workplace or authority over a worker.”

As such, this course is designed for all supervisors within all industries.

This course outlines workplace rights and responsibilities for employees, managers, supervisors, and employers. FAQs

Is this course approved by the Ontario Ministry?

Although not delivered by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD), this course fully aligns with the supervisor training requirements under Ontario Regulation 297/13, making it a credible program.

Who is required to take this course?

Anyone who supervises workers in Ontario is required by law to complete a supervisor health and safety awareness training course.

How often does this training need to be repeated?

Currently, there is no mandatory renewal requirement. However, refresher training is recommended if roles change or if a significant amount of time has passed. Proof of training is always required upon request.

Can this be used as part of a workplace's due diligence?
