Online Ladder Safety Training Program

2 hours duration

Ladders are used for so many tasks there are too many to list. Whether ladders are used for changing a lightbulb or accessing a roof, ladder safety should be top-of-mind to prevent ladder-related injuries in the workplace.

Ladders Last, Safety First!

You're right to be concerned about ladder safety. While it's true that ladders are a leading cause of accidents, sometimes they're the only practical option for elevated work.

The key isn't to avoid ladders entirely, but to ensure they're used correctly and safely when other options like scaffolding or aerial lifts aren't feasible. Proper training, equipment inspection, and adherence to safety protocols are crucial to minimizing risks and preventing all too common accidents.

Ladders are indispensable, but their safe use is paramount. When other options like scaffolding or mobile elevating work platforms aren't feasible, proper training, rigorous equipment inspection, and strict adherence to safety protocols are your best defense against the risks.

FAQs

Why is ladder safety training important?

Falls are a leading cause of workplace injuries and deaths in all industries. In fact, 25% of all falls from heights are falls from a ladder. The majority of workers are never trained on how to use ladders safely which is a major contributing factor in the high number of ladder falls. Providing workers with proper ladder safety training and encouraging safe work practices in your company will help create a safer work environment and reduce the chance of fines and injury related costs and delays.

What is a ladder last policy?

More and more companies are recognizing that ladders are not always the best method to access work at heights. Some have adopted what is known as a “ladders last” policy on their sites as an administrative control for ladder related hazards. Ladders last does not mean ladders cannot be used to work, but that efforts will be made to consider all alternative methods for access, such as scaffolding or elevating work platforms first. These alternative access methods are often much safer than a ladder. Regardless of your company’s policy, ladders should never risk the safety of the workers using them.

Is fall protection needed when using ladders?

Efforts should be made to not use ladders if the worker will be exposed to a high risk of a serious fall. However, there are situations where only a ladder can be used to access the work area meaning fall protection will be needed in order to protect the worker should they fall. When workers must use fall protection, additional training such as a CPO-approved Working at Heights course will be required in order to ensure workers and supervisors have the knowledge to use fall protection equipment in a safe manner.
