FAQs
Who requires fire extinguisher training?
Under the Construction Projects Regulations, any worker who may be required to use a fire extinguisher must be trained in its use. Employers are also required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act to provide workers with training and information to protect the health and safety of the worker(s).
Who can do a monthly inspection on a fire extinguisher?
Monthly inspections of fire extinguishers must be performed by a competent person. Our course includes training on how to perform a monthly inspection.
If I take fire extinguisher training, will I be required to fight a fire should one occur in my workplace?
No. Workers have no legal obligation to attempt to fight a fire in their workplace. This training will empower workers with the knowledge required to identify if a fire could be safely attacked with a fire extinguisher and what steps to follow when they encounter a fire. Always protect life over property. Only attempt to fight fires after the alarm has been sounded and the fire is still small enough that the available fire extinguisher(s) will be effective. If you are in doubt of your ability to fight a fire, evacuate.
