Standard First Aid and CPR Training (2-day)
Act First Safety proudly delivers WSIB-approved Intermediate First Aid training, formerly referred to as Standard First Aid, following the requirements set out in CSA Z1210:24 First aid for the workplace. This training includes enhanced learning outcomes to better prepare workplace first aiders to safely respond to injuries, illness and life-threatening situations in the workplace.
The topics covered are the same as Basic First Aid, however, Intermediate First Aid provides comprehensive training to help participants recognize, assess, and respond to a wide range of workplace emergencies. The course includes first aid for common injuries and illnesses, as well as more advanced emergency care, environmental emergencies, and incidents involving multiple casualties. It is one of Ontario's most widely recognized workplace first aid certifications. This training satisfies most workplace requirements.
Who needs this training?
Intermediate First Aid Training is intended for workplaces with 6 or more people working on a single shift. There must be at least one person with Intermediate First Aid training on site at all times.
Intermediate First Aid training is commonly required in workplaces where employees face elevated risks, where larger numbers of workers are present and where large physical spaces make it more challenging to respond in an emergency. This often includes industries such as construction, manufacturing, warehousing, transportation, logistics, education, child care, and larger office environments with six or more workers scheduled on a shift. Under Ontario's Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, employers are responsible for meeting applicable first aid requirements for all workers, regardless of whether they are employed on a full-time, part-time, temporary, or contract basis.
How many people should I send for training?
This will depend on the size and layout of the workplace. First aiders should be able to reach an injured person quickly, ideally in less than 2 minutes. For this reason, a workplace which a large facility may choose to train and have on shift, more than the minimum one first aider. See the FAQ for Basic First Aid above.
