Man dies in confined space accident

A construction worker has died on Thursday July 24th after becoming trapped in a trench that was more than two meters deep. The incident which happened in Toronto’s Eglinton Ave West and Caledonia Road area is being investigated by the Ministry of Labour. According to news reports, witnesses heard a large smashing sound at around 2:30pm and saw construction workers rushing to free the man from the trench which had collapsed, trapping the worker. News reports also stated that fire fighters were called to the scene for a confined space rescue. Heavy machinery was used to retrieve the man, he was without vital signs and pronounced dead at the scene. According to co-workers, the man was in his 30’s and a father of two.
