Open for business

Act First Safety supports essential services in construction, healthcare and other industry sectors and has remained open for training (face-to-face, distance and online) and consulting services.

Covid19 safety protocols protecting the health and safety of our staff and participants are strictly in effect. This includes limiting class sizees, complying with physical distancing requirements in the delivery of all our programs, the mandatory use of face masks, and pre-screening of all participants. Public and Private Classes

Act First Safety continues with PUBLIC training at the training facility at 720 Progress Ave., Scarborough. Ongoing classes are listed under Public Training Dates.

PRIVATE training is possible at your location with proper Covid19 protocols in effect. Please call us at 416-283-7233 to review your needs.

Personal Protective Equipment

    NIOSH-approved disposable N95 respirators, faceshields and elastomeric respirators are in-stock.

Respirator Fit Testing and Weekly Clinics

    Ongoing weekly clinics for N95 respirators, half- and full-face respirators require pre-registration. Please contact our office at 416-283-7233 for more information about fit testing and to schedule an appointment or arrange for fit testing at your location. Pre-screening of respirator users is conducted and infection prevention and control protocols are in place during these clinics.

In addition, clinics will be met with limited enrollment, so be sure to register early for these popular sessions. Onsite sessions may be arranged under these strict guidelines.

Respirator Fit Testing “Train the Fit Tester” Workshops

    Offering two methods of learning, in-class and blended learning, this popular workshop allows participants successfully completing the workshop the ability to provide fit testing at their workplace.

Professional Safety Training Facilitator

As a candidate, you may be accredited through the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering, the Board of Registered Safety Professionals, or other form of safety education and experience most importantly.  You may have experience as a facilitator. Perhaps you have subject matter expertise in a particular area of OHS that you are proud to tell us about. We would love to hear from you!

Job Description:

As a professional facilitator, you will conduct in-class theory and practical training components of our programs throughout the GTA. Programs may include; working at heights, mobile elevating work platforms, lift truck, asbestos awareness, confined spaces, suspended work platform systems, propane and more. A full- and part-time position will be considered. Car required for travel.

Requirements:

  • OHS certification
  • Certification in adult learning principles or equivalent
  • Well-informed in the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA), Ontario Regulations, applicable CSA standards and MOL guidelines
  • 3+ years in your area of expertise
  • Facilitation of large groups in a classroom environment
  • Professional conduct and delivery of training programs
  • Superb oral and written communication
  • Computer literacy with MS Office and technical skills operating laptops, projectors, etc.
  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Online WHMIS Training – Provides participants with the basic knowledge necessary to work with hazardous materials as required by law.
  • Online Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training – This program provides an understanding of the hazards and regulatory requirements associated with dangerous goods controlled products. This course is required for companies who ship by road and/or rail only.
  • Online Fall Protection / Fall Arrest Training – Provides participants with an understanding of their responsibilities when working in areas where fall hazards exist, the use of and inspection of the required equipment and the critical controls necessary to reduce the risk of a fall. Requires a practical evaluation.
  • Online Forklift / Lift Truck Training – This safe operation of a forklift /lift truck program makes participants aware of their legal responsibilities and provides the required information to achieve the theory portion of becoming a competent operator. Requires a practical evaluation
  • Online Aerial Lift Training – Focuses on safe operation of self – propelled elevating work platforms and self-propelled boom supported elevating work platforms. Requires a practical evaluation.
  • Online Lockout / Tagout Training Program – This program is designed to ensure employers, management and workers understand the hazards associated with uncontrolled energy and the proper methods of controlling energy through a properly developed and implemented lockout program.
  • Online Fire Safety Training Program – Provides participants with the knowledge necessary to prevent fires in the workplace and also focuses on the basic elements of fire prevention and protection.
  • Online Confined Space Training Program – Participants learn about the potential hazards of working in these spaces and the elements necessary to control hazards prior to entry.
  • Online Workplace Violence and Harassment Training Program – Participants will have a greater appreciation of the negative effects of inappropriate workplace behaviour.
  • Online Hydrogen Sulfide/H2S Awareness Training Program – Participants learn about personal breathing apparatus, contingency planning and rescue methods used to assist victims of overexposure.
  • Online Ladder Safety Training Program – Anyone using a ladder must comply and obtain the necessary training in order to reduce or eliminate worker injuries. This program complies with all necessary regulations.
  • Online Due Diligence Training Program – This program provides participants with an understanding of the responsibilities and reasonable steps to be taken for the protection of all workplace parties and explores the elements critical to a strong health and safety program and safety management system.
  • Online Office Ergonomics Training Program – This program identifies the risk factors associated with poor ergonomic positioning, but more importantly the controls necessary to prevent musculoskeletal disorders from occurring.
  • Online Manual Material Handling Training Program – This program explores common causes and controls of MSDs, and introduces safe working procedures in order to handle material in the workplace without injury. The term MSD is used collectively for a number of injuries and disorders of the muscles, tendons, nerves, and more.
